Airlink is a humanitarian initiative that offers a full web-based portal aimed at addressing both developmental and emergency humanitarian air transportation needs.  The portal provides a free system which connects humanitarian charities and Non Government Organizations (NGOs) with a need to transport passengers or cargo with airlines that can provide transportation for free or low cost.

NGO Partner Team Rubicon On The Ground in Oklahoma

Last month, areas in Oklahoma were devastated by deadly tornadoes. The massive EF5 tornado that swept through Oklahoma City, Moore, OK, and other suburban locations on May 20, left a path of destruction that forever changed the landscape.  The aftermath left by the twister was painfully apparent; children and adults perished; homes, multiple schools, businesses and a hospital were flattened.  The severe weather did not cease at that point, but continued throughout the week with additional twisters bearing down on the population.

Within hours of the tornadoes touching down our NGO partners; Team Rubicon, and NECHAMA alerted Airlink and requested assistance with immediate air transportation to Oklahoma. They were already assembling their emergency response volunteers and preparing the teams for mobilization from across the nation. Matches were made rapidly as our airline partners stood ready to support these significant disaster relief efforts.

Our thanks for the generous support of our airline partners and NGO communities. Through our collective energies we successfully transported over 200 relief workers to Oklahoma. We would like to recognize American and Alaska AirlinesJetBlue, and Southwest for their commitment to those in Oklahoma.

American Airlines transports 1 million deworming pills

Thanks to the generous support of
American Airlines, Airlink was able to assist International Relief & Developments (IRD) with transporting a priority 1 million de-worming pills from Beijing to Quito.  This shipment is currently in transit and will be delivered in time for the official launch of the Ecuadorian Government’s national de-worming program.  These pills will be used to treat 1 million children and will take a significant step toward reducing the side effects of intestinal parasites that include depriving the child of up to 20% of the nutritive value of the food, as well as associated knock on effects that negatively affect the child’s physical and mental development.  With that said, we still need the aviation communities’ help on the remaining 3 million pills.

School children in Indonesia enjoying clean drinking water

Thanks to the generous support of Etihad Airways, Airlink will be providing air transportation to support a Water Missions International program that provides equipment to purify drinking water in remote areas of Indonesia and Cambodia.  In these areas, over 50 million people lack access to safe drinking water.  Water Missions International plans to install 11 drinking water purification systems in Indonesia and 5 in Cambodia.  Together, these systems will give 22,000 people access to safe drinking water.
